JCB Dieselmax

350mph

British digger manufacturer JCB wanted to showcase the potential of its diesel engines so built one of the most advanced streamliners ever to hit the salt and got the team behind Thust SSC and Bloohound to run it. The car hit 350mph and could clearly have gone much faster though the team opted not to as they did not trust the tyres that they were using above that speed. There was a suggestion that the car would return to the salt to try to exceed 400mph and break the wheel driven record but it never came to be. The car remains in a museum in England. The full story of the car can be read in Racecar Engineering (below)
