UFC 50

UFC 50: The War of '04 was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on October 22, 2004, at the Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event was broadcast live on pay-per-view in the United States, and later released on DVD.


Headlining the card were Tito Ortiz and Patrick Côté. Côté was a late replacement for Lion's Den fighter Guy Mezger, who pulled out of the event after being taken to the hosptial due to stroke like symptoms.

* Light Heavyweight bout: United States Travis Lutter vs. United States Marvin Eastman

Lutter wins by KO (Punch) at :31 of round two. Lutter was a replacement for Patrick Côté, who filled in for Guy Mezger in the main event.

* Middleweight bout: Canada Ivan Salaverry vs. United States Tony Fryklund

Salaverry wins by submission (body triangle) at 1:36 of round one.

Tanner wins by submission (triangle choke) at 2:22 of round one.

* Welterweight bout: United States Frank Trigg vs. Brazil Renato Verissimo

Trigg wins by technical knockout (strikes) at 2:11 of round two.

* Welterweight Championship bout: United States Matt Hughes vs. Canada Georges St-Pierre

Hughes wins by submission (armbar) at 4:59 of round one. Hughes becomes the UFC Welterweight champion filling the vacant title.

* Middleweight bout: United States Rich Franklin vs. United States Jorge Rivera

Franklin wins by submission (armbar) at 4:28 of round three.

* Light Heavyweight bout: United States Tito Ortiz vs. Canada Patrick Côté

Ortiz wins by unanimous decision. The judges scored the bout 30–27, 30–26, 30–26.
