John Rasmussen’s ’29 Roadster

Featured in the March ’59 issue of Hot Rod , John Rasmussen’s topless ’29 with a shortened Deuce grille shell was a preview of where hot rod styling was going as it moved into the ’60s. The A roadster was perched on a hand-fabricated frame and featured bucket seats that tilted forward to provide access to the battery box and electric fuel pump. The flathead motor from a ’48 Merc was beefed up with a Navarro manifold, Sharp heads, and a Howard camshaft, with a converted Zephyr ignition. The ’39 Ford rearend was packed with 4.44:1 gears. Other cool components were the chromed rollbar, bobbed rear fenders, and disc wheels.

• Bahama Blue paint with white scallops

• Blue-and-white Naugahyde interior with tilting seats

• Reversed deuce dash molded into the cowl

• Stewart-Warner gauges

• ’55 Thunderbird steering wheel

• Drilled ’40 Ford front brakes
